Top 5 Easter Holiday Travel Ideas

The Pool, The Lennox, Miami

If you’re thinking of escaping for a few days, we’ve compiled a list of our favourite travel ideas for the Easter break.

*Unsponsored review

I don’t know about you, but the first quarter of the year has sped by at breakneck speed and the easter holidays are around the corner.  For many people – especially those with children – that means the first real opportunity to get away on an Easter mini break either in the UK or maybe even abroad.

So if you’re thinking of escaping for a few days, in no particular order, we’ve compiled a list of our favourite travel ideas for the Easter break. There’s a mix of different ideas from UK staycations to ideas a little further afield depending on the time you have and budget.

As always, these are unsponsored posts and suggestions, just our opinion on some great stays. Let us know in the comments if you have any other suggestions!

1.Kingsbridge, Devon

If you get lucky with the weather, Devon could easily be mistaken for a summer holiday in Europe. With sandy beaches and picturesque seaside towns, it’s a fantastic option if you’re looking for an active holiday where you can explore different towns on the coast but also relax overlooking the Devonshire countryside.

Our personal favourite location is Kingsbridge in South Devon. A picturesque market town with good amenities, it’s the perfect base to explore from especially with the popular town of Salcombe a short drive away.  We stayed in a beautiful Airbnb (with hot tub!)  overlooking the Kingsbridge Estuary. An added bonus is if you like to take to water, it’s also a great place to base yourself with plenty of options to surf and paddleboard nearby.

2.Tetbury, Cotswolds

This one has parents in mind. Tetbury in the Cotswolds is home to the Calcot Manor Hotel, a luxury hotel and spa with excellent facilities catering to families with children. They have a fully equipped playbarn setup with activities for children, and there’s also an indoor and outdoor heated pool and bikes that can be hired to explore the surrounding areas. Given this is a family focused hotel, they offer family sized rooms to make your stay that little bit easier.

Outside of the hotel, there’s loads to explore in the surrounding area and the Cotswolds has been one of my favourite places to discover in the UK. Tetbury is the second largest town in the Cotswolds and is close to some of the prettiest towns in the area such as Bourton-on-the-Water and Castle Combe – named the prettiest village in England.

3. Belfast, Northern Ireland

Northern Ireland is a good option if you’re looking for a destination that’s not too far from the UK but that feels more like you’re taking a ‘mini trip’. Belfast international is easy to fly to from most major airports and centrally located for easy access into the city centre. Although maybe not the prettiest city, there are a host of museums to visit in particular the Titanic museum and the Botanic gardens. Further afield, visit the Giants Causeway and if you’re feeling brave enough, take a walk across the Carrick-a-Rede ropewalk, we did it and it was loads of fun. You will need a car to access or join a day trip.  For any Game of Thrones fans, the series was shot in 25 locations around Northern Ireland and so there’s plenty to geek out on if you loved the show.

Stay at the Galgorm resort and spa, a hotel that sits in its own grounds and has an extensive  thermal spa village and choice of three restaurants. For a more detailed review of the hotel, take a look at our blog here.

4. Miami, Florida

Calling all the party people! If you’re looking for somewhere to really escape to and get some fun in the sun, then Miami is a great choice. With average temperatures in the mid to late twenties, Florida is generally a good option if it’s guaranteed sunshine you’re looking for. There is the chance of the odd thunderstorm or two if visiting in the first half of the year, something we experienced when we went in April, but it doesn’t take away from being a great travel destination.

Different neighbourhoods in Miami offer a different vibe. Looking to stay where all the action is? Choose a hotel close to or on South Beach. Collins Avenue is a good option as its still in the south beach area but set back from the main strip. The Brickell area has more of an urban feel being where a lot of offices are located. However, that doesn’t take away from having plenty of things to do and choice of restaurants nearby.

We stayed at both the Lennox Hotel and Nobu Miami beach. Although our room at the Nobu hotel was impressive, the Lennox, which is a luxe boutique hotel, was better on value for money and customer service and would definitely be our recommendation.

5. London, UK

London at Easter

Maybe I’m biased because it’s my adopted hometown, but no list would be complete without a London feature! Whether you’re based in the UK or abroad, there’s so much to do in London it makes for the perfect destination for the Easter holidays. It’s impossible to list out everything that you can do in the capital but a great place to start is by looking at TimeOut London or Secret London for things going on in the city over the holidays.

Hotels are likely to be quite pricy over the Easter break but booking in advance should help to save on cost and find a deal. One of our favourite London hotels is the Ampersand in South Kensington. It’s in a great location, right next to the tube station and close to some of the most popular museums in London; the V&A and the London Science and Natural History Museums. The hotel also puts on themed science themed afternoon teas catered to children, an easy win if you’re looking for a fun way to keep the kids occupied!
